When selecting the colour of bathroom tiles you will want to be cautious. The chances are you will need to accept your choices for quite some time as well as decades. You may also pass your tile options to the next home owners. You might want to avoid trendier materials and colours which will become dated rapidly. This does not mean you need to possess a boring bathroom.

Flooring look wonderful and when inside a bathroom could be warmed through by under floor heating. If this sounds like too costly a choice a fluffy bath pad will invariably have the desired effect. Flooring is often taken and mopped inside a short period of time and last a time. Wall tiles will also be easily maintained and need a wipe over and done with a moist cloth once every week. Whichever tiles you select you are able to design your blank canvas to match your style, ideals and personality.

IPAM stands for internet protocol address management.

What does that mean? In simple terms it means allocation, monitoring, supervising and managing IP or internet protocol addresses used in various network environments. In short it is an application to monitor and manage various configuration parameters. IP address management assures hierarchical allocation of addressees; at proper and relative levels and at the same time duplication or overlapping is completely avoided.

It is become even more important today because of IPv6 network system which utilizes larger address pools; on various public and private networks, from subnet levels to individual IP address allocation.

DNS and DHCP are the two most commonly used IPAM tools. They form partners in the task of IP management. They are the two vital components of this setup; DNS knows when the changes or new allocation is taken by the client via DHCP. It will update itself automatically.

As mentioned earlier IP address management tool have suddenly become the focus of network administrators and developers because of 128 bit hexadecimal numbers which cannot be interpreted easily by humans as was the case with IPv4.

In today’s real world network scenario, addresses are assigned from subnets or by DHCP servers, which are then configured with matching IP address pools and other client parameters. Therefore DHCP management involves the right pool sizing and value assignments; to enable it to assign the correct IP address and other parameters to innumerable devices such as computers, IP phones, and other wireless gadgets.

On the other hand DNS makes it easy for humans; it offers name allocation which is human readable; avoiding complex numeric addresses. Apart from performing lookup, who-is and other network queries, DNS also manipulates web addressees into IP addresses.

IPAM is typically a management of all these tools as one cohesive unit.

IT Support refers to the processes needed to keep IT hardware and software products in good working order throughout their entire life cycle. The term is mainly used to refer to software but the close linking of hardware and software these days means that it is not possible to delink the two in any discussion involving the maintenance of information technology.

The Process of IT Support
IT maintenance is a continuous process where modifications to hardware and software are logged, tracked and tested for impact analysis. Modification and testing is common as is the upgrading to newer versions of the product(s). The process also includes training and other day-to-day support activities. The main IT maintenance activities include:

• Implementing processes
• Analyzing problems and making modifications
• Implementing modifications
• Maintenance reviews
• Migration to new hardware or software
• Retirement of old/outdated hardware or software

The Need for IT Support
Maintenance of information technology is necessary in order to ensure that it continues satisfy user’s needs. Software is also applicable for maintenance irrespective of the life cycle model used in its development. Changes also need to be made for corrective and non-corrective actions of software. Some software maintenance actions are performed for the following reasons:

• Rectify faults
• Improve design
• Execute enhancements
• Allow interfacing with other software
• Adapt to hardware

IT Support Costs
Maintaining IT is a costly process and consumes a large chunk of financial resources. Much of the effort usually goes towards non corrective activities despite popular perception that most resources are committed towards fixing problems. The following are some of the factors that influence software maintenance costs:

• Type of application
• Uniqueness of the product – products that are highly unique or custom solutions cost more to maintain
• Availability of maintenance staff
• Life span of the software
• Characteristics of hardware
• Quality of design

There are some innovative ways to reduce these costs without having much negative impact. They include:

• Reducing maintenance agreements for applications that are rarely used; this action would impact on fewer users.
• Rather that cutting down on maintenance completely, the turnaround frequency can be reduced. For example, from daily to weekly.
• Weekend services or services provided during odd hours can be eliminated or reduced.
• Many maintenance providers are willing to slash costs rather than lose out on contracts completely. It pays to speak to them and seek better rates.
• Let your end users know what to expect with reduced maintenance.
• Avoid reducing service to critical processes since the negative impact will outweigh any cost benefits.

Evolution of IT Support
Maintenance of IT is a series of evolutionary changes and decisions are guided by having an understanding of what happens to hardware and software over time. In other words, IT maintenance is always a work-in-progress and never really comes to an end. In fact, it becomes more complex as time goes by unless more knowledge is gained and used to reduce this complexity.

What is defragmentation? Well it’s basically giving your computer a good old spring clean so it runs more efficiently and faster too. Did you know that everything you do on your computer takes up some space – a lot of people don’t realise this – not just downloading files but even just looking at a webpage uses space. In time this becomes wasted space and it also slows everything down. Thankfully there is an easy solution.

The clean up is a two step process. Step one gets rid of everything that’s not needed so straight away you’ve freed up extra space. Step two takes care of the defragmentation. This is not nearly as strange as it sounds!

What it means is when files are removed and deleted they leave a space, but this space is more like a hole or a gap. Defragging repairs all the holes and gaps giving you a brand new space to work with and reuse.

This is good housekeeping and it only needs to be done approximately every few months or so. The good news is that your computer does all the hard work for you. With just a few clicks it locates all the unwanted files, deletes them and then it defrags. Easy!

Important Note:Step One could take an hour or so and, Step Two could take a few hours or more – depending on the size of your clutter! Choose an appropriate time to do this – bedtime is a good time to do Step Two and let it run while you’re sleeping. It’ll all be worth it in the morning!

Step One – Removing unwanted files

Go to Start – this is the green button bottom left of your screen.

Click on Start and then Select My Computer. Or you may have My Computer on your desktop.

This will open a new window where you will see Local Disk C – this is your main hard drive. This is where the clean up takes place.

Right click on it and Select Properties.

Another window opens – showing you three things: how much space you have in total to use, how much space you’ve already used and, how much space is still free to use.

Jot down the second two figures so you can see for yourself that you really do have more space to use when you’re done – this is optional!

Now Click on Disk Cleanup.

Another window opens showing you all the files that you can delete and, the amount of space that they are taking up.

Select all the boxes and Click on OK.

The unwanted files will now be removed – this may take a while – leave this same window open for Step Two.

Step Two – Defragmentation

When Step One is complete Select the Tools tab in the same window.

Click on Defragment Now and a new window opens.

Click on Analyze – again this will show you before and after Defrag.

Then Click on OK and Defragging will begin. Remember this takes a while.

When Defragging has finished you will need to Restart your computer.

And Voila! You have just removed files that were wasting space on your computer and then defragged the extra space. Everything is now neat and tidy and will run much more efficiently. Well Done!

In Windows 7, applications would run on all the cores of your processor by default. With dual or quad core processors, you can actually set a particular program to run on only one of the cores so that other programs can use the remaining cores. This is called a processor affinity, in which programs or applications are made related or attracted to a certain core of a processor. Doing this actually makes your computer performance much better when they run certain applications, allowing you to get the best of the multiple cores. This article teaches you how to set processor affinity on Windows 7.

How to set processor affinity is not difficult, and is almost similar to the recent Windows. First, you will need to access into the Task Manager. This can be one by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del, and then clicking “Start Task Manager”; or you can just click Ctrl+Shift+Esc which will lead you directly to it. Then, click the “Applications” tab where you will be able to see the applications that are currently running. From the list, right click on the application in which you want to have the affinity adjusted, and then choose “Show processes from all users”. You will then see the processes, and then click “Set Affinity”. After that, choose which CPU you want to allow the process to execute on, and then pressing “OK” would have you set its affinity.

Basically, to choose which application to run on specific cores depends on how much resources it takes. If a certain application takes up too much resource, set about the different applications, especially if you are likely to run them at the same time, to the different cores. This way, one core will not need to do so much work at a time to get an application up and running. As a tip, you could put a less resource demanding one on one of the cores, while the high resource demanding one on the other.

Other things you should know is that while setting affinities do help make system performance run much smoothly, it is not exactly the wisest thing to change the affinity settings for System Processes since they function best where they are. Applications that are alright to change affinities are the third-party applications, which are applications like your video and sound editing programs, 3D graphics programs, and so on so forth. Do also note that the affinity settings will only stay the way it is when it is opened; it will go back to its default settings once you close them. Thus, you will need to reset the settings each time you use a particular program.

All in all, choose your affinity settings wisely and you will enjoy a boost in your processor’s performance.

With Wireless Routers gaining popularity nowadays, more and more people are finding ways to either use the signals for free or using other people’s identity to do things online. These are possible because the router uses radio signals to transmit your information, in which anyone within the signal’s range can have access to if it is not secured. Thus, in order to buck up on your Internet security, here are some things you could do.

First, you could make your Wi-fi not visible. This can be done by logging into your base station management Website, and then have the SSID Broadcast disabled. This way, anyone looking for a wireless network will not be able to see your network in the list. By doing this, passers-by and neighbors cannot take advantage of your network, especially since they cannot see or detect it in the first place.

Another thing you can do is to set the range which your wireless network can reach. This means, if your router can reach maybe two block away, set it so that it can only reach the far end of your house or apartment. This can be done by purchasing the right router, in which signal range in limited to the intended space, or you can reduce the transmission strength by removing or readjusting the router’s antenna so that it will focus its strength accordingly.

Other than that, you can disable the remote admin. When it in enabled, you will be able to access the router through the means of Internet. Thus, disabling it means you can only access the router from the router itself. The disabling can be done by logging onto your base station Website, and then choosing to disable it.

One of the most obvious and simplest thing to do is o select a password that is difficult to crack. Do not use very common passwords, like your name, birth date, easy string of numbers, or anything extremely common. Try to use a combination of letters, numbers and symbols, which is much harder to figure out. Changing your password can be done by logging onto the base station Website and change the password from the default one.

There are many other ways to boost up Internet security, but here are some of the ones you can do with your wireless router.

It’s that time of year when tons of college students prepare to go back to school. For many of them that means heading back to the campus, meeting up with old friends, and settling back into the dorms. However, attending college full-time during the day is simply not an option for a lot of working Americans. This is one of the reasons why online colleges have become so popular in recent years as they give people the ability to get the education they need while they work to support themselves and/or their families. The challenge with online colleges now is finding one that has a good reputation both in your respective industry as well as with current students and alumni. There is a website that truly provides online college rankings that matter. They spent the time researching all of the statistics provided by the top online colleges to the Department of Education and then also surveyed the satisfaction levels of current students and alumni to provide rankings that are more relevant and helpful to prospective students. We think that this guide to online colleges is really worth a look if you are thinking about going back to school to get a degree.

Post powered by Sponzai.

More than just the home of the blues and barbeque, Memphis gives you plenty of ways to play around, with fun things to do no matter who you are or what you like. Of course, if you’re into Elvis, rock-and-roll and mouth-watering ribs, you’ve got to check out Graceland, Sun Studios, and the Rendezvous. But Memphis has much more to offer than this holy trinity of southern culture, with enough to see, do and eat to make it the perfect location for your next long weekend getaway.
The families out there (or the wild at heart) should be sure to check out the Memphis Zoo, one of only four U.S. zoos with giant pandas. Recently ranked the #1 zoo in the U.S. by TripAdvisor.com, the Memphis Zoo lets you get up close and personal with the animal kingdom. And with the recent addition the Northwest Passage, home to Polar bears in a see-through underwater exhibit, and the zoo’s newest section, Teton Trek, kids and adults alike are certain to have a blast.
Don’t let your midtown experience stop at the zoo; the Cooper-Young and Overton Square neighborhoods are just down the street. Ask a local Memphian where to find a tasty bite to eat, great local music and ice cold beer, and they will probably direct you here. Speaking of beer … the environmentally conscious visitor can enjoy a locally brewed beer by Ghost River Brewing or walk through the natural landscape and educational facilities at the Lichterman Nature Center.
Memphis has museums for just about everything. From the Civil Rights Museum, Cotton Museum and Fire Museum in downtown to the Brooks Museum, Children’s Museum of Memphis and the Pink Palace Museum further east, the number of places to have fun while you learn are as bountiful as the barbeque restaurants. Families, friends, sports fans, history buffs, self-proclaimed food critics – Memphis has everything you need to keep everyone happy.
So when you visit Memphis, stay a few extra days. Even the locals don’t run out of things to do. And to make it easy, memphistravel.com is launching a new travel guide to help you plan your next vacation. Simply choose from a list of interests and you’ll be given a sample itinerary with lots of great ideas. You can also register for a chance to win one of twelve trip packages that include tours, gift certificates to Memphis’ favorite restaurants, hotel stays and more. Go to itinerary.memphistravel.com to get started.

Over the past 17 years working in software engineering and IT management I have used numerous Windows computers and regularly come across the same problems. This lens is a synopsis of some of the more common ways that I fix my computer.

General problems

Whenever some unexpected issue occurs on the computer, my initial reaction/fear is that there may be a virus on the computer. The first step is to back up my personal files immediately, get the latest virus definitions and scan everything for viruses (even USB memory drives). Anti-virus software will isolate bugs but not necessarily repair all registry damage so some additional research may be needed after bugs are found.

A slow running computer is generally a sign of strain to the disks, CPU and/or RAM memory. I first check there is at least 10% disk space free, open the task manager to identify any applications that may be using all the memory and close down background applications. If it’s been a while since the disks have been de-fragmented then I use Windows own defragmentation utility for fixing this.

Hardware problems

If hardware will not install/connect on its first attempt then I remove the hardware & any drivers and check the vendor’s site for the latest installation executable/drivers and documentation.

If existing hardware stops working I check the device manager (Control Panel) for any hardware faults. The Windows Troubleshooting tool can also give some good guidance on possible causes of issues.

Software problems

When the operating system develops problems, I fix my computer using the Microsoft Support website as my primary tool for research. Sure, I could search online for other user comments but I prefer the validity of Microsoft articles, solutions and patches.

If applications start misbehaving then I research the faults on the vendor’s website, looking for known issues, updates and customer support tickets mentioning the same fault.
